Introducing the ARH Internal Medicine Residency

Hello, I’m Dr. Bernie Sergent, the Program Director for ARH’s Internal Medicine Residency Program based at the facilities in Harlan and Whitesburg Kentucky. We’re excited you’re interested in our categorical three year Internal Medicine training program. We will be accepting three residents per training year at each site starting July 1st of 2019. Dr. Stanley Marlowe is the Associate Program Director and leader at the Harlan site whereas Dr. Sergent is at the Whitesburg site. We have gone to great lengths to ensure a uniform experience for our Residents; one that will prepare our graduates to excel in Internal Medicine in any setting. Dr. Marlowe and I both have a vested interest in our primary locations, and Appalachia as a whole, both being born and raised in these communities. We both are graduates of regional medical schools and want to provide the experiential learning and family orientated training environment in the state of the art facilities that ARH offers. The patients of the mountains deserve the highest level of care available, and we intend to train Residents to provide nothing short of this level of care with compassion and empathy.

Please have a look at the website for more information about the residency program and let us know if you have any questions or needs. We look forward to rewarding relationships with the physician leaders of tomorrow.

Regards,
