Welcome to the Internal Medicine Residency

A Letter from the Program Director

Come and learn about medicine in the mountains!

Hello, I am Dr. Jonathan Piercy, the Program Director of the ARH Internal Medicine Residency Program. Our program has been training physicians in the Appalachian Kentucky communities of Whitesburg and Harlan since 2019, and we are excited to welcome our inaugural group of residents in Prestonsburg in 2024.

Our program provides a broad exposure to all aspects of internal medicine, with a focus on our rural home. Our dedicated core faculty and community partners work closely with our residents to help them become the best doctors they can be. We have state-of-the-art facilities and comprehensive specialty clinics that provide all the amenities of modern medical practice. Our small communities also allow us to build strong relationships with our patients, like a small-town doctor.

As a native of eastern Kentucky with extensive experience in medical education, I believe that our region offers endless opportunities for young physicians. Whether your career plans include outpatient medicine, hospital work, or a subspecialty, you will find patients, co-workers, and mentors who can help you develop the skills you need to succeed.

If you are looking for a place to do your internal medicine residency, we would love to meet you! Please check out our website for more information or give us a call.

Regards,

Dr. Jonathan Piercy, MD, FACP
