Program Overview

The ARH Administrative Fellowship Program stands as an important initiative at ARH, structured to propel the growth and development of talented professionals aspiring to make a meaningful impact in rural healthcare administration. This comprehensive two-year program is designed to immerse participants in the various areas of rural healthcare, providing hands-on experience, exposure to diverse administrative functions, and an opportunity to contribute significantly to the enhancement of healthcare services in the Appalachia region. This fellowship will be customized to fit both the personal interests of the fellow and the organization’s strategic objectives.

Program Structure

1. Project Focus: Fellows will be assigned designated projects or initiatives, ensuring active participation in initiatives that directly impact and improve rural healthcare. This emphasis on practical application enhances the learning experience and contributes to the overall advancement of ARH’s healthcare services.

2. Fellowship Rotations: During the projects, Fellows will engage in a series of required and elective educational rotations across ARH hospitals, multi-specialty physician practices, home health agencies, and retail pharmacies. These project rotations provide a comprehensive understanding of the various aspects of healthcare administration in a rural setting.

3. Mentorship: Fellows are paired with identified mentors who serve in a leadership capacity within the organization, providing personalized guidance and support throughout their two-year journey. Mentorship is a key component to ensure a well-rounded developmental experience, fostering professional growth and leadership skills.

4. Executive Leadership Engagement: Fellows have ongoing opportunities to present their work to executive leadership, fostering a dynamic learning environment. This engagement
ensures exposure to strategic decision- making processes and facilitates valuable connections within the organization.

Eligibility

Eligibility: Eligible candidates for the ARH Administrative Fellowship Program should meet the following criteria:

  • Recently obtained a master’s degree in health administration or business administration or completed the didactic requirements of an MHA, MBA, or related accredited program.
  • Demonstrated academic excellence and relevant work experience.
  • A genuine passion for addressing the unique healthcare needs of rural communities.

Application Process

Application Process: The selection process for the program is as follows:

  1. Application Submission: Interested candidates must submit detailed applications via our application portal and must include a professional resume, cover letter, graduate school transcript and three (3) letters of recommendation.
  2. Screening: Applications undergo a rigorous screening process to identify candidates aligned with ARH’s mission and values.
  3. Interview: Shortlisted candidates participate in virtual interviews to assess their suitability for the program.
  4. Site Visit: Successful candidates will have the opportunity for a site visit to familiarize themselves with ARH facilities and the communities we serve.

Second-year Advancement:

Advancement to the second year of the program is contingent upon the Fellows exemplary performance during the first year. Fellows achieving the highest performance standards will be offered the opportunity to continue their leadership development journey in a more advanced capacity during the second year. Fellows who do not advance onto the second year will receive support from ARH as they transition out of the program.
